Louise Tomcheck

Owner/Head Teacher

Louise is a second generation authentic Pilates instructor. She has worked in the field of human movement for over 20 years, first as a professional dancer and dance teacher and later in mainstream fitness. She was introduced to Pilates after sustaining a back injury. Amazed by her recovery while doing Pilates she began training and working at IsoFit, the first Pilates studio in Hong Kong. She later pursued training in New York, Los Angeles and Atlanta and has trained with many well respected instructors including Jerome Weinberg, Cynthia Lockard and Dorothee VandeWalle. She has had the great privilege of training with and being certified by Romana Kryzanowska at the center in Sydney, Australia in 2000. She founded her own studio, Core Ability, in Hong Kong in 2003. In 2004 she was approached by Peak Pilates to become an instructor trainer and she trained instructors in Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. In 2008, she relocated with her family to Whistler, BC, Canada.

Tani Hamagishi

Junior Teacher

Tani first discovered Pilates in 2012. She had just completed a bachelors degree in Business and Fine Arts at Vancouver Island University. At that time, she was a passionate rock climber and was seriously considering yoga teacher certification when a car accident injured her back. A part of her recovery process was clinical Pilates. Tani appreciated the intelligence and healing nature of this method and her path towards formal Pilates training began. By 2014, she had completed her first comprehensive Pilates training with Physical Mind Institute in Victoria and Vancouver. During that time, she had relocated to Whistler where she was introduced to Romana’s authentic Pilates. Classical was the missing piece. She was excited by the discipline and physical conditioning that this lineage offered so she completed her second comprehensive Pilates training in 2016 under the tutelage of Louise Tomcheck at Whistler Pilates. She has since trained with other Classical instructors including Mejo Wiggins, Peter Fiasca, Dorothee VanWalle and Jerome Weinberg and incorporates studio sessions into her travels. Tani currently teaches full time at Whistler Pilates and continues the path of movement education both professionally and personally.

Rya Letham

Junior Teacher

Rya holds a bachelors degree in Human Kinetics, program Exercise Science, from U.B.C., a Bachelors of Education from S.F.U. As a mother of 2, Rya is forever grateful for the Classical Pilates system which has assisted her in regaining her physical strength and agility postpartum, so she can move with ease and grace with her children, in her yoga practice, athletic endeavours, and throughout the rest of her daily activities. Rya completed her apprenticeship at Whistler Pilates and presently teaches Pilates and Yoga in both Whistler and Pemberton.

Lindsay McLachlan

 Junior Teacher (visiting)

I consider myself a Pilates enthusiast. I have been exploring The Method created by Joseph Pilates for just under two decades, as both a student and as a teacher. I completed my Teacher Training program through Whistler Pilates in the summer of 2018. I will often tell my students, "that in Pilates there is no finish line. As you deepen your practice and understanding of the method the road becomes a journey". As my understanding grows so does my dedication to continue my education and learning by attending workshops and participating in as many sessions as I can. "To truly understand the Method you must feel it in your own body." I love to teach and I am grateful that this is my career.

Colleen Marwood

Teacher in training

Colleen has enjoyed the Pilates method, especially the total mind-body focus that comes with it. She has experienced great mobility and freedom in her body as she trains to become a Pilates instructor.

As an apprentice instructor, she is excited about helping her clients develop more body awareness and strength. She facilitates foundational exercises that transform everyday movement patterns.

These small changes make a huge difference in functional movement and daily life.

Colleen has spent many years understanding and practicing wellness for herself, her clients and family. She is a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and works with Specialized Kinesiology to test body imbalances.

When she’s not in the studio, Colleen enjoys spending time with her family and friends, being outside, and appreciating the beauty of Whistler.

Colleen is training under Louise Tomcheck at Whistler Pilates.
